Monicats Pottery is produced by full-time Studio Artist, Monica De Campo

The STONEWARE pottery is thrown on a potters wheel as well as hand-built, then bisque fired and dipped in a lead-free satin white glaze. The pottery is then hand-painted with ceramic stains and oxides on the raw glaze in the style of majolica and gloss fired to 2180F/1200C.

No two are alike: NO decals or molds are used. Monica specializes in creating Custom Tile Murals, Kitchen back-splashes and an array of colorful Tableware.

Monica, born in South Africa, completed her Teaching Degree at Pretoria Teachers College in 1975 as an Arts Major. Pottery hobby classes from Maxie Erasmus in Hazyview became a passion and Monica soon had her own studio and produced award-winning earthenware and stoneware pottery . She had since headed the Ceramic Department of Brakpan Technical College near Johannesburg, did further studies at Johannesburg Technicon in Printmaking, Conceptual Arts and Drawing. She completed workshops with John Gibson from England, Les Manning and Matthias Ostermann in Canada . During 2004, Monica participated in the Artist in Residence Program at the Medalta International Clay Centre in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. She actively participates in Fine Art Workshops and enjoys painting in Acrylics on canvas. She is a member of the Saskatchewan Crafts Council.
